Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar with his folk-based pop songs most of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in the love of Colorado and then moved to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the director of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado as John Denver." Denver is the Hall of Fame's first inductee, was honored by the honor in 2011. Denver has been the symbol of Colorado to the people all over. When I travel, I always come across someone on the opposite side of the world someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first thing out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's first Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked within small Folk Music groups. The song was written by Bill Danoff. Danoff originally wrote it using Johnny Cash's songs in mind, but Denver knew from the first time he heard the early versions that the song was going to be an instant hit. Following the performance at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver released the song a couple of days afterward.
